The adoption of electric vans, taxis, and motorbikes has received a significant boost with the UK government pledging an additional £120million funding to extend the Plug-in Van Grant extension for another year.
Here’s a quick summary of what van fleet managers need-to-know.
What’s the latest?
Alongside extending the Plug-in Van Grant, the government has announced a number of crucial steps to bolster electric van adoption. Zero emission vans will now benefit from the following measueres:
- Removing Additional Training for Large Electric Vans: Zero-emission vans over 3.5 tonnes will no longer require extra driver training, bringing them in line with diesel and petrol equivalents.
- Towing Allowed: Fleet operators will now be able to tow with large electric vans, making them more viable across more sectors.
- Expanded Vehicle Eligibility – The changes extend to minibuses and campervans, now able to benefit from EV incentives
- Enhanced Flexibility for Disability-AdaptedVehicles: Vehicles designed for disabled passengers can now reach upto 5 tonnes
Commenting on the changes, the UK government’s Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood, said:
From van drivers and businesses, to drivers with accessibility needs, bikers and cabbies, today we are making it easier, fasterand cheaper for people to switch to electric vehicles.
By making the transition to zero emissions a success, we’rehelping to drive growth all over the UK, putting more money in people’s pockets and rebuilding Britain to deliver our Plan for Change.
